Ursula Roberts was one of the great British trance mediums of the 20th century commonly known for her ability to channel a discarnate intelligence called Ramadahn who would impart his Wisdom and knowledge to others in various spiritualist circles around England, at that time.
One very interesting book I happened to come across, although I feel it may be out-of-print today (I stand corrected if this is untrue) was a publication called ‘Reminiscences: Lifetime of Spiritualism’. In this book, well worth buying for those interested in Spiritualism, were several direct experiences of Ursula Roberts in which she recalls her encounters with the Angelic Kingdom which virtually surround us if we would but open ourselves to this wonderful aspect of God’s creation.
”As a medium writing about my recollections, it is possible that childhood memories will be as boring to other people, as some writers childhood recollections have been to me. But I feel I must recount my first sight of a wonderful ‘sky being’. It is something of which I have seldom spoken, because such apparitions are invariably viewed by others as hallucinatory or imaginary, or maybe the surfacing of some deep inward desire to appear important. I did not speak of the apparition when I saw it because it seemed to me too beautiful to be described in words. I hugged the memory of it to myself and kept it as somethinng precious to be reviewed in moments when loneliness and fearfulness held me in a grip.
To this day I can recall details of that ethereal being as I saw it in the sky above the sea, from Folkestone Leas, when no clouds were apparent in the hush of a warm summer evening. I stood transfixed on the grassy level of the Leas, which is a cliff-top promenade walking space, and gazed at the huge figure arrayed in a robe of delicate pink, with the semblance of a human figure which appeared to be hovering over the sea.
Why it was there I have never known. Why it became apparent to me I cannot tell, unless it was to comfort my lonely child heart and make me aware that there were beings other than those we met in my ordinary life. Did other people see it? I do not know. I can only say I saw it as marvellously beautiful, ethereal and majestic.
Whether Angels look like that I cannot say, but I do know that I had a second vision of a similar kind many years later, when as a grown woman I was filled with the determination to ‘keep both feet on the ground’ and not allow imagination to be mistaken for mediumship. There I was, seated with my friend Lilian Davies, ready to eat lunch on a warm day in mid-summer in the garden near Chichester in Sussex. It was mid-day. The skies were clear of cloudy shapes, when I looked up in appreciation or such a lovely day, and saw three great sky-beings in the distant heavens. Lilian also saw them, and we sat entranced for a long time discussing the details we beheld, and allowing our food to congeal on the plates. Those sky-beings were enormously large and appeared to be marching one behind the other. The first was arrayed in a violet hue, the second in blue, and the third smaller figure in a colour resembling a wintry sea when it was neither blue nor green. They were not near us, and did not appear to notice us. They seemed to be marching aove the sea and engaged in some mission of their own. It could be said I imagined the forms in the shapes of the clouds, were it not for the fact that the sky was bereft of clouds, and is it usual for two people simultaneously to have the same imaginary vision at the same instant and in such detail that it can be discussed by them at the moment of viewing.”
”In my later years I spent considerable time in the vicinity of the old cathedral Sussex town of Chichester. Occasionally I would meet with my friend Diana Wade in order to spend an hour in silent attunement, because we both needed renewal of spiritual energies at that time, in order to cope with the difficulties everyday living presented to us.
It was while meditating with her that I saw, on several occasions, a great angelic spirit hovering over the land which appeared to be in the vicinity of Eartham. Why it should be over Eartham is something still unexplained, unless it could be that it is land protected by the Forestry Commission, or it could be that some devas, or angelic beings, continue to retain a link with a source of spiritual power established in a forgotten period of earth’s history.
Not far away is the Wild Bird Sanctuary at Arundel, and in Earlham is the Brent Lodge Bird and Wild Fowl Trust, where injured and ill birds are lovingly tended by devoted people who release them into their natural habitat when they have recovered from injuries. Whether these people devoted to the care of the bird life have been inspired by the Earham angel, I do not know. It could be that the angel has been attracted by their devoted ministrations, and by the prayers of the many people in Sussex who are trying to develop a more spiritual outlook among the people of that area.
In my meditation I saw, as though through a telescopic extension of sight, through the walls of the house and into a wide view of the open countryside, toward the Eartham woodlands where this great apparition appeared to be hovering, with the semblance of arms outstretched and seemingly blessing, or filtering spiritual energies into the landscape. The wonderful thing about it was, that what could be described as robes seemed to be extended filmy attentuated energies, which encompassed and interpenetrated the landscape with subtle colours and enfolded the distant sheep, cattle and humans in a mantle of gentle light.
One morning on a silvery spring day, I saw this being as so indescribably glorious that I tried to embody my thoughts in rhyme: I just felt such joy was flowing from the ‘being’ to the world, and from the world to the angel, that it was an ecstasy of life renewal. Since that time I love to live in that district, because I know that part of Sussex has a special spiritual blessing.”
